  1. Start Slow: Play a recording of a doorbell at a low volume. Reward your puppy with treats for staying calm. Repeat this process, gradually increasing the volume as your puppy becomes more comfortable.
  2. Add Distance: Once your puppy is used to the sound, have someone ring your actual doorbell. Remain inside with your pup. Give your puppy treats each time the doorbell rings, rewarding them for staying calm and not reacting.
  3. Practice with Guests: Invite friends or family over to practice your puppy’s response to the doorbell with actual visitors. Keep these sessions short and positive, reinforcing calm behavior with treats and praise.

  1. Start Simple: Begin by wearing simple costume accessories, like hats or capes, around your puppy. Reward them for calm behavior and gradually work up to more elaborate costumes.
  2. Introduce Props Slowly: If you plan to wear full costumes, introduce each piece of the costume slowly over time. Let your puppy sniff and investigate the items at their own pace, always reinforcing positive interactions with treats and praise.
  3. Practice with Friends: If possible, have friends or family dress up in costumes. Interact with your puppy in a calm and positive manner. This can help your puppy understand that the people inside the costumes are not a threat.
